Dragon's Dogma 2

Dragon's Dogma 2: Beginner’s Guide

At a glance

Choose a starting vocation, build a party with healing and ranged coverage, and follow the opening story to Brant in Vernworth. Prepare supplies and clear excess weight before longer journeys.

Choose your vocation

Start with a style you enjoy. Fighter uses a sword and shield for close combat; Archer fights at range; Mage brings healing and enchantments; Thief uses daggers and mobile close-range attacks. You can change vocation at a vocation guild, so your first choice does not have to be permanent.

Your party consists of the Arisen, your Main Pawn, and up to two hired Pawns. If you lack healing, hire a Mage. Keep both close-range and ranged options in the group, and check whether hired Pawns still suit your party as you level up.

Prepare before leaving town

  1. Store materials you do not need immediately, or share the load with Pawns. Excess weight makes travel and stamina management harder.
  2. Bring camping supplies. Rest when your reduced maximum health becomes a problem.
  3. Check your curatives and your route before accepting a long escort or rescue.
  4. Prioritize urgent rescue quests rather than sleeping repeatedly while someone is missing.

Understand your saves and skills

With the expanded save system installed, each Arisen has three save slots, with Autosave, Interim Save, and Last Inn Rest Save types. Before loading, check the character, slot, timestamp, and save type. Camping and an inn rest are different choices.

Visit vocation guilds to buy skills and Augments with DCP. Learned Augments can be equipped across vocations. The updated skill system allows six equipped weapon skills; check your loadout after changing vocation.

Reach Vernworth and meet Brant

Follow the opening main story into Vernworth and meet Captain Brant. After Seat of the Sovran, talking to Brant grants the Eternal Ferrystone on updated installations. A returning save that already completed the quest receives it in the inventory.

Use activated Portcrystals as destinations and continue Brant’s objectives. You are ready to branch out when your party can recover during fights, your skills are equipped, and you know which save you would load if a journey goes wrong.
