Dragon's Dogma 2

Dragon's Dogma 2: How to Start Dark Arisen

At a glance

With Dark Arisen installed and a save outside the Unmoored World, speak to Captain Brant at the Stardrop Inn in Vernworth at night. Choose “About the new Arisen…” for Chilling Tidings, or “About the uncovered ruins…” for Lost Rites.

Find the expansion dialogue

Own and install Dark Arisen, then return to Vernworth. Visit the Stardrop Inn at night and speak to Captain Brant.

Dialogue option What it starts
About the new Arisen… Chilling Tidings and the story leading to Norgan
About the uncovered ruins… Lost Rites and its twelve dungeon challenges

Look for the new quest in your log after the conversation. Seeing the expansion on the title screen alone does not mean its quest has started.

Prepare for the route you choose

Level 20 is a useful preparation target for Lost Rites, and 40 for Norgan. Treat those as recommendations rather than hard unlock requirements. Your party, equipment, and supplies still matter.

Starting Lost Rites does not immediately open every Spellseal Door: some doors also depend on story progress.

If you are in the Unmoored World

You cannot begin the expansion directly from this stage of the current playthrough. Continue to New Game+, or consider the option to restart the story with inherited character progress.

Restarting resets quests and quest items, and the confirmation warns about access to the current save. Read it carefully and check the Arisen and slot before proceeding. It is a story reset, not a shortcut back to Vernworth.

If Brant has neither dialogue option, check the expansion installation, the time of day, and whether your save is already in the Unmoored World.
