Dragon's Dogma 2: How to Get and Store a Preserved Medusa Head

At a glance

Find Medusa in Calignious Depths south of Bakbattahl. As a Thief, climb to the head and use melee attacks to sever it early; confirm “Preserved Medusa Head” in the inventory and immediately store it at an inn.

Prepare a quick return to Bakbattahl

Medusa is in Calignious Depths, south of Bakbattahl. Plan the trip back before fighting her. A Portcrystal in Bakbattahl makes it easier to store the head quickly after the fight.

Bring a Thief with daggers for this route. A Mage who can enchant your weapons with lightning is a useful setup to try. Watch your party’s damage: you want to sever the head early rather than let the fight become a normal kill.

Climb to the head and cut it early

  1. At the start of the fight, grab and climb to Medusa’s head.
  2. Use ordinary melee attacks at the head. Being too low on the neck can deal health damage without severing it.
  3. Aim to decapitate her while she still has high health, rather than working through the whole fight.
  4. If strong equipment kills her too quickly, try a weaker dagger setup on the next attempt and keep other damage under control.

Do not assume that low damage by itself will solve the fight: the attack must reach the head. Lightning support is part of this suggested setup, rather than a reason to ignore positioning.

Check the actual quality

Pick up the head from the ground, then open your inventory. It must say Preserved Medusa Head. A normal or Withered head is not the same result, and the decapitation achievement alone is not a quality check.

If a Pawn picked it up first, check that Pawn’s inventory and transfer it to the Arisen.

Store it before resting

Return immediately to Pilgrim’s Inn in Bakbattahl. Talk to the innkeeper, open item storage, choose Deposit, and store the Preserved Medusa Head. Confirm it has left your carried inventory before resting or waiting for several days.

Take it back out only when ready to use it, and travel promptly. Do not repeatedly sleep while carrying it to force daylight on the way.

If you get a lower-quality head

Check whether attacks were landing on the head, whether the party drained too much health first, and whether the head decayed after pickup. Adjust the positioning or damage on your next attempt.

For a retry, allow Medusa to respawn before returning. Resting in Bakbattahl for 14 days is a conservative retry plan; check the cave afterward rather than treating an exact day as a guaranteed spawn timer. Store any head you already have before advancing time, and avoid waiting for days at the campsite outside the cave while carrying it.
